Back story

Cynewulf is an old Templar and travels the land purging evil and the unclean. His will is strong and his attitude doesn't really reflect that. Traveling the lands has a way of relaxing an uptight lifestyle. His faith is unbending and his spear is fine. He is used to company but not used to having the same people around as they tend to be killed off, leading to a kind of lonely life except for the ever changing characters in his life.

Taiyo No Ken:

Her katana, a heirloom passed down her family line for many generations and once belonging to the shogun, was the only surviving piece her family still owned - the companion wakizashi and tanto had long been lost.  The katana itself was sheathed in a white saya made from the wood of a poplar tree, which itself was wrapped in rayskin.  The cord that attached the saya to her own person was made of a light uncured leather, dyed a dark burgundy color.  The tsuka that wrapped around the handle of the katana was also that of white rayskin, and created a diamond formation 20 in count leading up to the tsuba.  The tsuba, the disc-like guard on the katana, was shaped to resemble five sakura petals, yet the steel tsuba was more than sufficient to protect the users fingers.  The blade of the katana itself was still usable and sharp, yet it had dulled with both time and use, and was chipped in various parts along the edge.  Its once great sharpness was shown by the pattern on the edge of the blade, forming a wave all the way to the bottom.  The forging together of metal was a technique that wasn't practiced by many in this foreign land, and so many would not believe that this katana was folded 15 times, creating 32768 layers in total.   Not anyone could repair such a blade, and normally she would have to go to a blacksmith in service of the emperor, but this was obviously out of the question.

Back story
Asu hails from a land in the far-east.  She was born to a family of nobility, with a somewhat distant relation to a previously overthrown shogun.  Her family was targeted by the current shogun, and so she was adopted into a low-born family so as to protect her so that the families claim to the throne may live on.  
At the age of 16, Asu got into a fight with a noble which led to a duel.  It was customary for the nobles to win in situations of peasants versus nobles, as the peasants knew that if they fought back their families would be targeted - however, Asu slew the noble who was untrained and relied on the crutch of his status.  A man-hunt began, causing Asu to flee the safety of her country and out into the unknown.  With only the simplest of supplies and basic self-defense and hunting weapons with her, she somehow made it passed vast expanses of scorched lands relying mostly on wit, agility, and a bit of luck.  She began to travel west, and after many years wandered into a land of foreigners.  She hid her face and spoke little to the locals, but continued her travels further, unsure of what she sought, but sure she should keep moving until she found it.
